Why choosing an IT provider is harder than it should be

Every MSP says the right things

If you have looked at more than one IT support provider, you will have noticed how similar they all sound. There is no obvious way to separate the ones who deliver from the ones who say they do.

Assurix accreditation addresses that directly. Annual audits and self-declared badges reflect a single point in time. They say nothing about what happens the rest of the year.

The industry has no regulation

There is no licensing requirement an MSP has to meet before trading. The quality gap between providers can be wide, and most businesses only discover it when something goes wrong.

Referrals help, but they only go so far. ISO accreditations and industry awards do not tell you whether a provider is performing to standard right now. That is the gap Assurix closes.

Assurix integrates with Labyrinth Technology’s PSA, RMM, Microsoft 365, and backup systems. It collects evidence automatically and flags any control that falls out of compliance.

68 controls, more than 20 tracked live

The framework covers cybersecurity aligned to NCSC CAF 4.0, operational maturity including SLAs and change control, and business resilience. If any control fails, we have 30 days to resolve it before the trustmark is paused.

Publicly accountable

The Assurix directory shows every certified MSP with an active trustmark. If certification is suspended, that is reflected publicly. There is no way to carry a lapsed accreditation quietly.

Assurix is an independent trust mark for UK managed service providers. It verifies that an MSP meets defined standards across cybersecurity, operational maturity, and business resilience, using live data from the tools the provider uses every day. Unlike a one-time audit, certification is monitored on an ongoing basis.

ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials are point-in-time certifications. They tell you that a provider met a standard on the day they were assessed. Assurix monitors continuously, which means the accreditation reflects current performance rather than a snapshot from months ago.

At the time of writing, Labyrinth Technology is one of only three MSPs in the UK to hold the Assurix trust mark. The certification programme is designed to be selective, and the ongoing monitoring requirement means that number only includes providers currently meeting the standard.

The framework covers more than 68 controls across three areas: cybersecurity (aligned to the NCSC Cyber Assessment Framework 4.0), operational maturity (including SLAs, ticket management, and change control), and business resilience (covering continuity planning and supply chain risk). More than 20 controls are tracked live.

Ask whether their certifications are independently verified and how recently. Many accreditations are awarded annually and not monitored between assessments.
